Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cup cups almond flour (150g)
  • 3 large egg whites (approximately 90g)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100g)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (5g)
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips (optional for drizzling or mixing in)Optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat
  • Whisk the egg whites in a clean, dry bowl until stiff peaks form. This may take about 3-4 minutes with a handheld mixer on high speed.
  • Mix the almond flour, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a separate large bowl until fully combined. If you’re using chocolate chips, fold them in now.
  • Fold the whipped egg whites into the almond flour mixture. Be gentle but thorough, ensuring no lumps remain and the batter is uniform.
  • Scoop the batter onto the prepared baking sheet using a tablespoon or a cookie scoop. Space them about 1 inch apart.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the macaroons are golden brown and slightly crisp on the edges.
  • Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Substitutions: If you don’t have almond flour, you can use finely ground blanched almonds, but the texture may vary slightly.
  • Storage: Store the macaroons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze them for longer storage (up to 3 months).
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve these macaroons with a hot cup of tea or coffee. They also pair wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert.
